Haymaker Farmers’ Market Cashier

Job Description

Haymaker Farmers Market (HFM) is seeking a friendly community member to serve as our seasonal cashier. This position is alternating Saturdays from 10-1 in April and November, 9-1 May - October. This is an independent contractor position.

Key Responsibilities 

  • The cashier will be responsible for providing friendly, welcoming, and professional service to guests at the Market tent. 

  • Must be able to handle various types of transactions including cash, credit/debit, and food access token/voucher distribution.

  • The HFM Cashier will be responsible for ensuring the cashbox reconciles correctly and that all transactions are recorded correctly, and HFM assets are kept safe at all times.

  • Activities may include selling merchandise, Market event ticket sales, and managing inventory. 

Expectations

  • Support an inclusive, respectful, and community-focused Market environment.

  • Answer basic questions about the Market, vendors, and payment programs.

  • Punctual and helpful to Market needs at open and close.

  • Maintains accuracy when handling and processing Market funds and transactions. 

  • The cashier is a primary point of contact for customers and will offer friendly and helpful direction to customers as requested.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity and comfort with technology related to processing transactions and managing inventory.

  • Minimum 1 year of customer service.

  • Competent with basic math; addition, subtraction, division, multiplication.

  • Comfort with independence working solo and troubleshooting tech issues.

  • Knows when to request assistance from management. 

Other

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • The HFM Cashier reports directly to the Market Manager.

Hours: Alternating Saturday mornings, 9:00am-1:00pm May through October,
10:00am-1:00pm April and November

Hourly Rate: $16
